Google Play Store Won't Download Apps? How to Fix It
Downloads stuck on 'Download pending' or failing partway? Fix the Google Play Store with network, storage, cache, clock, VPN, and account steps.
When Google Play won’t download an app, the cause is almost always low storage, a stale Play Store cache, or a network hiccup. Work through the fixes below in order, fastest first.

Rule out the network first
A download stuck on “Download pending” usually points at the connection, not the app. Load a web page to confirm you’re online, then switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data. A large app can be held back on metered data until you allow it. The fastest reset is Airplane mode: turn it on, wait about ten seconds, and turn it off to reconnect the radio.
Clear space and reset the Play Store
Apps need room to download and unpack, so a nearly full phone can fail even on a small install. If space is tight, free up storage on Android first. Otherwise the store’s own cache may be corrupt. Open Settings > Apps > Google Play Store > Storage (called “Storage & cache” on Pixel), tap Clear cache, and retry. Still stuck? Check the clock, VPN, and stuck queue
One jammed download can hold up the whole queue. In the Play Store, tap your profile icon (top right), tap Manage apps & device > Manage, find the stuck app in the list, and tap the X next to it to cancel. Then reopen its page and tap Install or Update to restart it. Google also rejects connections when the phone’s clock is wrong, so open Settings, search for date and time, and turn on the automatic option. Finally, if you use a VPN, disconnect it, since some servers block Play Store traffic, then reconnect once the download lands.
Last resort: re-add your Google account
If nothing above works, the link between your phone and your account may be out of sync. Back up first; this is a good moment to back up your Android phone. Then open Settings > Accounts (labeled “Passwords & accounts” on Pixel), select your Google account, remove it, restart the phone, and add it back.
