How to Merge Duplicate Contacts on Android

Duplicate contacts almost always live in your Google account, so one built-in tool cleans up nearly any Android phone. Open the Contacts app, pick your Google account at the top, then tap Fix & manage followed by Merge & fix and Merge duplicates. Review each pair and tap Merge, or clear the whole list at once with Merge all.

Merge two contacts by hand
When you already know two entries are the same person, skip the scan. Tap More, choose Select, tap both entries, then open More again and pick Merge. This helps when each copy holds different details, like a number on one and an email on the other.

Google only merges contacts in the same account, so a repeating name is often a device or SIM copy.
Samsung phones have their own tool
On a Galaxy, open Samsung’s Contacts app and tap the menu (the three lines). Tap Manage contacts, then Merge contacts to combine matches by number, email, or name. Undo a merge or restore a contact
Mistakes stay reversible for a while. In Contacts settings, in the app or on the web, choose Undo changes to roll your whole list back to any point in the past 30 days. A deleted contact also sits in Trash for 30 days, where you can recover it.
Run Merge & fix first, handle stragglers by hand, then check the merged card kept the right number, email, and photo.
